About
Hey! It looks like not only are you interested in MarliesHQ, but you actually want to find out about it. Or you accidentally clicked about. Regardless, this page is designed to inform you on what this site is all about.
What is MarliesHQ?
MarliesHQ is your unofficial source for the latest and greatest in all info dedicated to the Toronto Marlies organization. The site was created in 2010 as a response to the lack of coverage that the team received at the time from the media. Things have improved since, but they’re still far from being at a good level. MarliesHQ exists to fill the void – while not having the big name the mainstream media has, the site provides game by game coverage, player profiles, behind the scenes looks at off-ice events, signings, team news, and even player interviews. Essentially, everything you could want in terms of coverage, all centred around a blog. As well, by being a blog, it’s capable of having a unique perspective that you won’t get from more well known media sources.
The site is fully AHL media accredited. MarliesHQ is run by Jeff Veillette.
Wait, who?
I suppose this is the part where I talk about myself. I’m Jeff Veillette, also known as Jeffler. I’m 20 years old, Toronto born and raised. Born and raised interested in hockey, I was able to get my head around the Leafs roster by the time I was three years old. It’s grown more obsessive since. A stats nerd by nature, I specialize in the NHL and AHL. I’ve been blogging about hockey since 2007. My first experiment was with The Faceoff Circle, a now defunct general NHL blog that at its peak reached 500,000 readers in 3 days. Since then, I’ve tinkered with a few other concepts, such as a petition to change the Toronto Maple Leafs logo and uniforms that achieved partial success in 2009. My main projects have been MarliesHQ, and its parent site, LeafsHQ.
I’ve had my eyes on the Marlies since the 2007/08 season, and have been to the bulk of the team’s games since the end of the 2009/10 season. From my first experience seeing the team, I knew that they were one worth paying and giving attention to.
